4.6.5.1 Deck Washing

a) Routine sweeping of the weather decks and removal of accumulated grease should be carried out prior to rainfall or washing.

b) Vessels are not to carry out any wash down of main deck or superstructure while the vessel is in Port or within port limits.

c) Company supplied biodegradable de-greaser should be used for cleaning of decks and superstructures where required.

d) As a good practice, vessels should avoid using Fire main while the vessel is in shallow or confined waters or inside harbor unless for safety reasons or to comply with local requirements.

e) Use of Fire Main is permitted for anchor washing to prevent the transport of unwanted organisms.

4.6.5.2 Chain Lockers

a) Cleaning of chain lockers is to be carried out in Dry Dock only.

b) Chain Locker bilges must be checked well in advance prior to arrival in port from an Ocean Passage.

c) In case pumping of accumulated water from the chain locker is required, it should be carried out at least 50 NM from land unless for safety reasons.

4.6.5.3 Fresh Water Tanks

a) Fresh water Drinking Water tanks are to be inspected on an annual basis as per the planned maintenance schedule.

b) No chemicals are to be added to Freshwater tanks as the same is used for Boilers.

c) Where chemicals are used in Drinking water tanks, the potential for harmful impact should be reduced by minimizing the use of treatment chemicals to the lowest effective level that will meet system requirements.

d) Application rate of chemicals should always be as per manufacturer recommendations.
